A Place for Prostration
|
|
Main structural elements of a Masjid -
The Qubah (dome) - symbolises heaven and universe.
The Mihrab (niche) - a wall recess, mostly in the form of an arched niche in the Qibla wall, indicating the direction of Mecca.
The Minbar (elevated pulpit) - placed to the right of the Mihrab and consists of a raised platform reached by a set of steps, used by the Khatib for sermons, proclamations and reading.
The Minaret - a tower-like structure alongside the masjid from the top of which the Muazzin calls the faithful to prayers.

Yellow cars 'safest on road'
July 22, 2004
THEY are hardly popular but bright yellow cars have been found to be the safest on the road.
Dark-coloured cars which tend to blend into the environment are more likely to be involved in a crash and tend to cost more to fix.
A survey by NRMA Insurance found beige, cream and white cars also rated well in terms of safety.
Researcher Robert McDonald set out to find whether a car's colour affected its visibility.
"It is not surprising that yellow, a bright vibrant colour, is involved in the least amount of not-at-fault crashes during dawn and dusk as this colour is highly visible on our roads," Mr McDonald said.
