Fort Margherita, Kuching
|
|
I'll be honest.
One of the reasons I will never qualify for Fear Factor is because I'm afraid of heights (not that I want to anyway). Actually, it's not so much of being high up that bothers me, it's the going down part that I dread most. What if I slip? What if the stairs give way? I suffered 2 years in pre-university simply because I unfortunately got the upper bunk of the hostel's double decker bed. (I even fell once on my way down). THAT's how bad my phobia was.
At Fort Margherita, I conquered my fear (that's how far I had to go). One, because my mother was a lot more phobic of heights than I was so I had to pretend to be the "calmer" one. Second, because if I didn't, I would've missed the spectacular sight the top of the Fort offered. So, I dragged my feet up the spiralling stairs to the top of the Fort, and I didn't regret it.(Charles Brooke would've been proud of me... )
The Fort is really quite small, not as imposing as I had expected. But the 20 minutes walk up the hill to where it's structured was well worth it..
